Insulation Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add new insulation on top of old insulation?
Yes.
You can add new insulation on top of old insulation, unless it is wet.
Wet insulation can lead to mold, mildew or even rotting of your ceiling roof rafters.
If it is wet or appears it has previously been wet, you should look for the cause and
repair it to prevent a reoccurrence.
If the insulation needs to be removed, we can do this for you.
What is R-value?
R-value is a measure of the insulation’s ability to resist heat flow.
The higher the R-value the better the thermal performance of the insulation.
What is the difference between cellulose and fiberglass?
Cellulose is made by grinding up old newspaper and treated to be fire retardant.
Fiberglass is made from melted sand(glass), which is spun much like cotton candy and cut into sizes
to fit in framing, or made as loose fill to be blown into attics.
I have some recessed Lighting in the Attic, Can I cover these?
No.
The recessed Low Voltage Lights must be sleeved; our Installation Team can put Isolation Cylinders over the lights, which protects them from overheating.

interior environment.
Insulation effectively reduces noise transmission through floors and through interior and exterior walls.
Do you give free estimates? How long before someone returns my call?

Is attic insulation important?
Yes it is a must have in Michigan.
Studies show that heating and cooling accounts for 50 to 70 percent
of energy used in a home.
Simply put not having enough insulation in your attic cost you more money to
heat and cool your home and makes your home less comfortable.
What are my options for attic insulation?
Most people Think of the old pink rolls of batting in the attic when they think of insulation.
Today there are a number of options.
The three most common types are fiberglass batts, blownin or loose fill fiberglass and cellulose.

Will it make a mess?
No.

Fiberglass insulation is comprised of about 35% recycled glass and 65% silica sand,
a renewable and virtually inexhaustible resource.
Are there tax credits available?
